Lodge Information:

At the turn of the 20th century, Irish Freemasonry flourished in Punjab, led by the esteemed Lodge Emerald Isle No. XIX I.C., linked to the Connaught Rangers no. 88 since 1909. In 1919, as the Connaught Rangers moved to Simla, members of the Emerald Isle Lodge facilitated the establishment of Lodge Donoughmore No. 458 I.C., consecrated on December 27, 1919, and later relocated to Ambala. The Grand Lodge Board of General Purposes transferred Warrant No. XIX to Ambala in 1920. Thus, two Irish Lodges emerged in Punjab, complementing others in Calcutta and Bombay. The Lodge is named after the 6th Earl of Donoughmore, an influential Freemason and politician. After Indian Independence, much of the membership repatriated to the UK and the Lodge was relocated to New Delhi, where it thrived, and has been, ever since, a reminder of Irish Masonic glory in undivided Punjab, as the Premier Irish Lodge in Punjab, namely Lodge Emerald Isle No. XIX I.C. was left in Pakistan; and has since relocated to Dublin. Lodge Donoughmore came under the Provincial Grand Lodge of Ireland in India in 1983. Today, Lodge Donoughmore No. 458 I.C. upholds its Masonic heritage, reflecting the enduring spirit of Irish Freemasonry.
