Lodge Information:
Lodge Minden No. 464 I.C. exemplifies the enduring presence of Irish Freemasonry in India, tracing its origins to 1809 when a Military Lodge, namely Lodge Social Friendship No. 863 I.C. operated briefly in Quilon (Kollam), marking the beginning of Irish Freemasonry in Malabar (Kerala). This Lodge is named after the Battle of Minden (1759), a key event in European Military History during the Seven Years War during the reign of Frederick the Great of Prussia; the Lodge's history is intertwined with glorious Irish Military Masonic traditions, with various regiments bearing the colours of the Minden name and having Military Warrants across Irish, English, and Scottish Constitutions. Originally established as an Installed Masters Lodge in Calcutta was established in Calcutta in 1919, it relocated to Bombay in 1985 as a Lodge accepting Candidates for Initiation, then to Kanpur in 1993, and finally returned to Kollam in 2014, rekindling Irish Freemasonry in the region after nearly two centuries. Lodge Minden No. 464 I.C. continues to symbolize the resilience and rich heritage of Irish Freemasonry across different eras and geographies and the legacy of past Irish Military Lodges. It is one of the memories of pre-Independence Irish Masonic glory in undivided Bengal when Calcutta was the Imperial Capital.
