Lodge Information:
Irish Freemasonry first arrived in India in 1754 when the first Military Lodge attached to the 39th Regiment was established at Fort St. George in Madras. This foundational event marked the formal introduction of Irish Masonic traditions to India. The Lodge started in Calcutta in 1924, driven by notable figures among the irish Masonic Fraternity in Bengal, and the Imperial Capital of Calcutta. Over the years, the Lodge navigated various challenges, including relocations to Bombay and ultimately to Chennai in 1987, signalling the return of Irish Freemasonry to South India after 230 years. The Lodge celebrated key milestones like its Silver Jubilee in 1949 and the establishment of the Rodgers Memorial Royal Arch Chapter, reflecting its resilience and adaptability. Today, Lodge Harp of Erin No. 567 continues to thrive in Chennai, symbolizing the enduring spirit and values of Irish Freemasonry, while honoring its historic past and embracing the future. It is the Senior Irish Lodge in South India with a varied and dedicated membership.
